unsung heroes

With less than $40,000 in funding a year, the Ward Fire Department relies solely on volunteers in order to serve and protect 117 square miles surrounding Boulder. Their hard work is a true testament of their community, and serves as a reminder to the individuals behind every 911 call who volunteer their time to show up and help people through the worst days of their lives. This series follows efforts of the Indian Peaks Volunteer Fire department and that of Boulder Rescue throughout several training sessions. It features portraits of the volunteers, fire chiefs, and founding members, who have been involved in emergency services for over 60 years.
